Amazon Go Store – skip the lines

Sébastien Stormacq

The lack of innovation in physical retail experience for customers is a stark contrast to the examples of different innovations toward online shopping. One of the most frustrating and enduring pain points is having to stand and wait in line to pay for your items. Perhaps self-scanning checkout is the most recent innovation in this space, but even that remains clunky and frustrating, and the friction in the shopping experience really hasn’t gone away. Amazon approached this differently in its Amazon Go stores by using a combination of cameras, sensors, computer vision techniques and deep learning in seamless and invisible ways, so that customers can simply come in, take items they want, and just leave. No cashiers, no checkout line – just grab and go!
